  1. probably nothing quite like what we would call a smile.  But primates in general have a multitude of facial expressions.  A smile in a person is just one of many facial expressions we use to communicate with each other.  Think about the conversations you have had during the day or other encounters and how facial expression pass on lots of information.

And I think many people would say that they can read their cat or dog by their expression...

  2. a lot can smile but it rarely means the same thing, often the opposite, look up chimapanzee expressions

  3. Course!!!!!!!! Are you dumb?

  4. well, a chimp has an expression LIKE  a smile but it means danger. also, scratch a dog behind the ears. it'll look liek he/she is smiling.

  5. Wolves and dogs have a 'play face' which they make when happy and playful. They flatten their ears outwards and open their mouths, letting their tongues loll out, and pull the corners of the mouth up and back, which looks very like a smile. Here's an image:

Dolphins look as though they are smiling, but this is simply the natural shape of their mouths, and does not change with emotion.

Chimps and other apes smile when happy - they do so with the mouth closed and lips pursed. When taught to 'smile' by humans, they bare their teeth in imitation of a human smile, which is actually a nervous or aggressive gesture among chimps.

    This is a chimp smile:

And this is what they do when taught by humans:
