Can any projector be used as a theater?

I want to make the family room into a theater room..

I have used the projector to connect to computer and display slide shows.

Can i show Movies as well?

  2. Providing you have a matching output source (e.g. dvd player) in composite video the projector must have composite input aswell. If its HD the same applies. But yes movies are absolutly possible with most projectors.  

  3. Some projectors do a better job with video than others, but in general you can use any projector to watch movies.  Note you will need an external amp and speakers to handle the sound since projectors have, at best, very basic sound capability.

    Ideally you need a projector with component or HDMI/DVI inputs (and a DVD or Blu-ray player with similar outputs), but composite or S-video will work (with poorer picture quality).

    You ideally need a projector designed for home theatre use (in general, better video processing, better contrast ratio, quiter fan) rather than a "business projector".
