  1. If you have Sliders, cooter, painted, map, yellow bellied all are basically the same and require the same basic care, and can be housed together.

I have had my 2 slider  girls for 36 yrs. Plus an 8 and 5 yr old and now a 2 yr old that was adopted last week from this site.... Been in a pond for almost 7 yrs now.

Just in case some i nfo, Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA for 8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system! Gravel larger than they can swallow.

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear! This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!

They can have garden worm, meal worms, crickets, flies anything that moves!

They need leafy greens Romaine, Butter lettuce. (Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any other leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 3 to 4 times a week.

You probably already know that they get sick easily, shell rot, respiratory sickness, lopsided swimming, coughing, blowing bubbles, Swollen cloudy eyes means lacking in Vitamin A. Which we all need for good eyes. Google ‘vegetables that Vitamin A’.

  2. absolutly not! Turtles can not be housed with any amphibians, because

    1. amphibians do not live in a 85% aquatic setup, like turtles do.

    2. turtle might eat the amphibians.

    3. turtle will get sick because amphibians have poisons in their skin.

the only creatures that turtles can live with is fish, but the fish are feeders( aka only put there to feed the turtle)

  3. as above non can be kept with turtles set-up fighting eating each other skin toxins and incompatable bacteria and parasites can all lead to sick and dead animals. just dont do it

  4. I'm afraid your turtle is a loner, Sweetie, unless you want it to live with another turtle for company.  The turtle will eat anything it can catch, or at least severely injure it.  Some frogs and newt can make your turtle sick if he ingests them.

So, sorry, but it is not a good idea.  Fish are part of his diet, so you can toss in Rosy minnows or guppies, but they won't last long.

Enjoy your turtle, and I hope this has been helpful.

  5. Not a good idea.

Turtles are notorious for never cleaning the bathroom and they leave the kitchen a mess.  Turtles get up in the middle of the night and turn the TV WAY UP when everyone else is trying to sleep.  The only good thing about having a turtle for a room mate is when there is only one Pepsi left, you can ALWAYS beat them to it.

  6. As long as the turtle is not a snapper, I can't think of any reason why not.

Frogs can be carnivorous and even cannibalistic. I'd worry about them more than a turtle.
