Can any tree be a bonzai tree?

Question

I found a little oak sapling and put it in a small bowl. Will that work well or even survive?

Although it wouldn't have survived in the garden anyway because my house is kind of in the way...

Sure, I've seen Bonsai'd oak trees before and the shape of the leaves makes a very pretty specimen.
