Hi, I'm moving to London with my work in the new year and would really appreciate any advice on places to live over there. I'm looking for the kind of place that caters for a 25yr old single guy, so a lively nightlife were I might bump into a decent young lady would be nice. Additionally friendly people, low crime any the rest of it would also be a bonus. I'm looking to pay up to £350 per week on rent in a furnished flat or something similar (if that is feasible! :-S).

As I said in the question, I'll need to be able to get to the St James area within 45 min at any time of the day!... so I'm guessing the circle of where I can live is going to be fairly specific!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance. :D

  1. central london is very expensive, u cud find a 1 bedroom flat tho for sure like in victoria, westminster which is all near st james park.

i live in london and i know the rent is very high but yeh u cud get a 1bed room flat around there and ul only be 15 mins from st james park

  2. You might want to look just south of the river Battersea or Balham.  If you are close but going to be using rail/tube, hoping for 45 mins door to door is wishful thinking in my experience.

  3. Islington is your answer

  4. Paying 350 a week, London is kneeling at your feet!

Best website to check is gumtree.com. (I've lived in London all my life and have used this site since 2001 to find my flats).

To be honest, with the sort of money you have to spend you have two choices: you can either go for a Notting Hill, Chelsea, Kensington, Knightsbridge, kind of small apartment - but the areas are full of rich arabs and uptight white girls/boys with trust funds. Or you could go for Shoreditch, Balham, Clapham, Stoke Newington, Brixton, MASSIVE house with a cool hip Greenwich Village vibe.

Any of the above are within 30 mins of St. James Park.

The action is north of the river Thames though. Zone 1/2 of the underground Subway network. Look at www.tfl.gov.uk for tube maps.
