Hi, i´m moving soon to Texas, been living in Mexico... and I have a 7 year old girl, is she supposed to enter an "Elementary" school?

How are the school grades there? can somebody explain...i mean...

like what grade will she be in? at what age each grade belong to?

and so far....my papers are taking ages, I would also like to know when is the "back to school day" for this school year period? 2008/2009

I want to know how many days she will be missing if I can´t get there soon, or what day do i need to be there, so I can plan my things perfectly...so far I don´t have a school for her because i´m still looking for the house we´re moving in so.....

thanks a lot!

i´m lost!

  2. Usually kindergarten is age 5, but it depends on the local school regulations.  In Texas, it might be 6, I'm not sure.  After that is first grade -- from there to about sixth grade is "elementary".  Most of the time, 7th and 8th would be junior high, and 9th-12th would be high school.  Most people graduate from high school at 17, 18, or 19, depending on what age they started school and when their birthday comes during the year.

So, yes, your seven year old would be in elementary school.  First, find out where you're going to live.  Then you can find out which school she should go to.  I do not know what the first day of school is, but you can find that out when you find out where you will live.  It doesn't really matter -- the school will enroll her and find the proper place for her to get the most benefit from her new school.

  3. Welcome to Texas! We've been here 21 years. School starts in August. Your child will be in elementary school. You have to call the school & get your lists of what you need. Your child has to have updated medical records & required shots (especially since you're not from the U.S.). Most of our schools have "english as second language" classes to help your children to learn. Visit your school, meet the counselor & nurse, and they'll tell you everything you need. Bring your "proof of address" of where you live. Good luck!  We love it!

  4. i believe she will be going into second grade, so yes that is an Elementary school.school usually starts mid august

  5. Your seven year old should be in 2nd grade, I'm pretty sure.

    Here's the age thing:

    K1: 4/5

    K2: 5/6

    1: 6/7

    2: 7/8

    3: 8/9

    4: 9/10

    5: 10/11

    6: 11/12

    7: 12/13

    8: 13/14

    9: 14/15

    10: 15/16

    11: 16/17

    12: 17/18

  6. Let me explain the school grading system in the United States: A 90-100. B-80. C-70, D-60- Below 60 is a failure. Unless your child has had problems at her previous school the child should enter the second grade. The school will begin in either August or September depending on the type of the school. Once your established your child should go to the school district that you will reside in. I hope this helps you out. Welcome to the United States and the best of luck to you.

  7. Kindergarten usually begins at age four or five.  First grade is five or six.  Second is six or seven.  Third is seven or eight.  Fourth is eight or nine.  Fifth is typically nine, ten, or eleven years.

School typically begins in late August or early September.  I'm from New York and our schools don't start until a couple of days after Labor Day.  However, our bordering state Pennsylvania, starts in late August.

I would begin searching for elementary schools for your daughter and continue to find a house near there. It's never too late to enroll your child into a school. However, you may just have to postpone until next year.  Your daughter may be a little behind, but it's better than not going at all, right?

I hope I helped you a little bit and good luck to you!!
