Can anybody give examples of failures under each of the three basic structural requirements of construction?

  1. Strength and stability can't be separated; the only reason for strength is to obtain stability.  If an earthquake knocks a house down, it wasn't strong enough.  If a shower valve is put into an outside wall, it probably isn't serviceable.
