There are no au pairs in the UAE. Most housemaids in the UAE are from Asian countries such as India, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Here are the monthly minimum wages:

Philippines: Dh1,470 + 2 days weekend

India: Dh1,100 + mobile + has to be over 30 years old

Sri Lanka: Dh825

Indonesia: Dh800

Bangladesh: Dh750

I would recomend a Philippina (not to young) who used to be a mother and housewife in the Philippines. In this case it's advised to pay up to Dh 2.000 monthly.

Live ins are very inexpensive here.  For a live-in you can expect to pay them 2,000AED or $550 per month.  Plus there airfare home once a year and there visa which is about $1500 for two years.  Mind you, some people get away with paying their live-in less, but that's just being cheap in my opinion.  They will usually be Sir Lakan, Filipino.  If one has kids and can afford it, most have one.
