  1. start with the kick/flutter board and do lots of lengths with that to get used to having your body out flat.  keep your back straight, your head forward, your arms out in front on the board and kick your legs so you can just feel them only just coming out of the water.  you don't have to make huge splashes to know that you're kicking well.  using the kick/flutter board will help you lose weight from your legs.  another good exercise in the water for your legs is to put a foam belt around your tummy (most public swimming pools have these) and move through the water as if you're running in slow motion - great exercise and low impact.  best of luck.

  2. Legs straight out behind you.  Keep them straight and kick, keep your feet pointed behind you.  Alternate with your arms.  It is sort of an arc motion. Left it out to the side and up, then extend your arm and reach forward as you bring your arm down into the water.  Follow through with the stroke and as your arm reaches your side repeat with the other arm.  You can either keep your head above water, or keep your face down and every third stroke left your head to the side and take a breath.

  3. It depends what stroke you want to learn. Here's a tip, try and keep your legs straight.
