    O well

  2. There's a book called Working with Children In The Early Years by Devereux and Miller, and it has bits and bobs in it about childcare in various parts of the UK.

I believe that childcare for early years started when the legal schooling came into law. Children would bring little bros and sister because mums and dads were working (esp factory and mill workers). They soon realised that school was suitable for early years children and special schools/nurseries were created.

Then around the war time Nurseries became maintained by governments/councils so that mums could go to work whislt the men were at war. After war many mums kept their jobs so nurseries remained although not as well run as it was no longer a priority.

Then laws like Education Act and inspectors started appearing and the quality rose and rose....and the curriculum started.

  3. watch the Magdeline Sisters..........heartbreaking execellent film and will give you lots of the info you need
