Question:

Can anybody help me with my Canon Powershot XD630?

Two weeks ago it started to freeze up on me with no error messages, so I don't know what is wrong with it.

As I am holding down the shutter button to get the picture in focus, the screen will go black, the camera shuts off and the lens is still out. I push the ON button to try and turn it back on and it is just dead.

I will take out the battery, put it in the charger, once it is charged I will put it back in the camera and it will work for a short time and then the process starts all over again.

Am I just s.o.l.? Do I need to just buy a new camera? Doesn't Canon charge around $100 to even look at first to tell you what is wrong with it? I get the impression Canon's service dept. is not worth the time and the money.

Any comments or suggestions?

  1. It's possible that your batteries are giving up the ghost. Go down to the photostore and see if swapping your pack out for the one in the demo model helps.

If it turns out the camera is kaput, well, then you can look at the new models while you are there.
