  1. Brisbane and Sydney are connected by Highway 1. Unless you cross the great dividing range there isn't actually an inland road as an alternative.  Of course if you do cross the mountains you can choose a variety of routes, some sealed and some dirt track. The best i can offer is - visit Waterstones and buy a decent map, then select the route you wish to take. There are some lovely little towns ranging from around 50 inhabitants to several thousand.

  2. Goondiwindi, Gilgandra, Dubbo, Parkes, Forbes, Eugowra, Murga, Cudal, Boree, Calare, Bletchington, Orange, Bathurst, Warimoo, Blaxland, Glenbrook, Auburn, Haymarket , Sydney Sth, Sydney.

  3. I have no idea where you live Rug but the highway has existed for a great many years. What you are after Bem is Newell Highway as opposed to the Pacific highway which is the coastal one. Here is a link to a map that has the towns listed. The second link is the coastal highway. Both are broken up into sections occasionally the Newell part between Newcastle and Armidale is often referred to as the New England highway. But you get the idea.
