Like Mark Twain aka Samuel Clemens. Or Ernest Hemingway who only had a high school diploma? What I would like to pose with these writers of note is that perhaps a higher education is not as important as the ability and drive to succeed. Thanks!

  1. You're right, one does not need a college education to succeed in writing novels, humor or in music. But it's worth the trouble to get a college education if your goal is poetry, acting or art.

By the way, a high school education is not 'very little' education.  High school standards were much higher a century ago. Students were expected to be able to read some Latin, learned trigonometry and some calculus, and memorized a lot of poetry. And they were expected to be able to write English well, have good penmanship, have good manners, and to be able to spell.

  2. Maybe some freed african american slaves. There is one in particular I'm thinking of but I can't remember his name.

  3. Stephenie Meyer..........

  4. Jack London. He could barely spell, and his short story submission kept coming back, because it was impossible to read them. He worked hard at manual jobs at daytime, studying English and typewriting during the night, sleeping very little.
