you will not find a cheapr class that's anywhere near as effective as they products offered by Rosetta Stone. And no I am not a Rosetta Stone salesperson. There are free Demos on line to help u appreciate the courses

I would have to agree with Lee. If you want to find a cheap German course close to you the VHS is probably the best option. However, you should keep in mind though that classes are rather large and you might not learn as much as you would in a "normal" German class.

You could also try one of the many free online classes. Just type "free german lessons" in your search engine and off you go. The following link offers one of these "free online courses".

Try your local Volkshochschule (VHS).

They have affordable classes of "Deutsch als Fremdsprache" - German as foreign language. Outside of basic crash course classes, you can get add-on classes focussing on grammar, vocabulary, conversation and so on.

Usually, you can find your local VHS by using a search engine and the keywords "Volkshochschule + cityname".

Otherwise, check the phone directory.
