  1. I have been on several lines,  including a couple that are now defunct.  I will say, we really like Norwegian, Celebrity,  and Holland America.  HAL has the best private island in the Caribbean.  If you like a lot of glitz you might like Carnival.  Kids, Disney.   Lots of activities, Royal Caribbean.   There are several smaller companies that cater to the adventure traveler, with unusual ports of call and activities.  You can visit their websites or get some brochures.  Look at the pictures.  The images are designed to appeal to the line's  target clients.

Then you have to consider the itinerary.  Do you want Caribbean, Mexico, East coast, West coast, Alaska,  Hawaii, Mediterranean, Asian, river cruising, or other?  The cheapest deals are often Caribbean, as many ships sail down there and it is fairly accessible for a large population.

When it's time to reserve your cabin, check with the on-line cruise/travel discounters.  The days are gone when you could drive to the port the day of sail and get an immensly discounted cabin :-(  I believe now you have to be booked two weeks in advance.  But there are still deals to be found.  Hardly anyone pays published fare.  So check around.  We have dealt with Cruise1 and Seasavers in the past.  The catch to that is booking air flight.  If the cruise line books it,  they make arrangements to help you if your flight is delayed and you don't make it in time to the port.  If you book it on your own, that's just tough if something happens.  We usually plan to fly in the afternoon before just to make certain.

We have had a great time with good food on every boat we have sailed on.  Unless you are ultra picky or accustomed to only the finest cuisine prepared by five star chefs every day, then you will have a great time too!

  2. We are cruising in April to the Caribbean.  We are going on Royal Caribbeans Adventure of the Seas.

We have been on Royal, Princess, Disney and NCL.  Royal is our favorite cruise line by far!!  The staff is great and friendly.  We always have a good time.  We always get a suite on our cruises.  To us it is definitely worth the extra money.  If you can swing it - get a balcony room if you can.  YOU WILL spend time in your cabin/suite if you have a nice one with a balcony.  We had our coffee out there every morning while pulling into each new port.

  4. we have done cruises with p&o ocean village fred olsen, and royal caribbean, loved every one of them, but when the ship sails at night and docks at different place every day we found that paying extra for cabin upgrades were a waste of money, after all, at night all you see is miles of open sea, and we were never in the cabin during the day. to many things to explore, cabin is just a place to sleep

  5. i pulled out of going on a cruise, people started getting sick while on them. so i decided to stay home and use the money on the family. have tons of fun.
