Does it have to be an upright?? I ask because I've been through a good few vacum cleaners, Hoover, Electrolux, Red Devil, Vax, Dyson ~ I've tried them all ~ and to my mind there's nothing to beat the one I'm using now..the Henry (Numatic HVR200) a fantastic wee machine with great suction (and really good if you have pets)which beats even the Dyson into a ****** hat, and all for under a hundred quid.  If it has to be an upright then I'd vote for the Dyson.

dont buy a vax turboforce 1700 thats what i have and its not that good

I have a hoover pro stair which is fantastic I got in the half price sale at Curry's. for £75 it is so effective it almost sucks up the carpet ! It gets rid of pet hairs in one go. I did have a cheap Tesco own brand for £30 which was absolutely useless even on laminate and tiled floors. It would have been more effective to go along with a straw in my mouth ha ha.

A second hand Dyson

a guy at our local car boot sells them - buisnesses usualy buy the best one every time a better one comes out and so they sell their old ones realy cheap and there only like 6 months old

ask some buisnesses or cleaners

I don't know the conversion rate, but in the U.S. the Eureka Boss is a great vacuum for under $100.00
