  1. (2 / 5)x + 3 / 7 =1 - (4 / 7)x

    Add (4 / 7)x to each side to get all x terms on the left:

    (2 / 5)x + (4 / 7)x + 3 / 7 = 1

    Subtract 3 / 7 to get all numerical terms on the right:

    (2 / 5)x + (4 / 7)x = 1 - 3 / 7.

    [ (2 / 5) + (4 / 7) ]x = 1 - 3 / 7

    = (7 - 3) / 7

    = 4 / 7.

    Adding the fractions on the left:

    [ (14 + 20) / 35 ] x = 4 / 7

    (34 / 35)x = 4 / 7

    Dividing by 34 / 35:

    x = (4 / 7) / (34 / 35)

    = (4 / 7) * (35 / 34)

    = 2 * 5 / 17

    = 10 / 17.
