The short answer is: no one knows. There have been reports that she and her navigator crash landed on one island or another and died there, but nothing's been proven.

There's speculation that the Japanese captured her but no reference to this has even shown up in captured Japanese military records.

It's more likely than the plane crashed into the ocean. If so, there's no way it will ever be found.
