Can anybody tell me about the draws for the Top 3 in Men Singles in Australian Open & French Open?

Where in the semis in the Australian Open 2008, it was Roger (1) vs Djokovic (3) & Nadal (2) vs other player; whereby in RG, it was between Roger (1) vs other player & Nadal (2) vs Djokovic (3)...why there is a difference?

In tennis the top 4 seedings don't go strictly to form as in other sports.  Number 1 and 2 are on opposite sides of the bracket, so they can't meet until the final.  As for number 3 and 4 they are chosen randomly in each major tournament, so number 1 can draw number 3 or 4.

The number 1 is always at the top and 2 at the bottom. However, at each tournament it is different as to where the no.3 and 4 are placed. Adds to the excitement, especially as it would become repitive with the same players meeting in the semi finals. Also if the number one always played the no.3 they might as well be no.2 so they play a less established player.

To promote competition between the toughest players the draws are arranged in such a manner so that the top seed and the second seed(generally the world no 1 and no 2 ) face each other in the finals.The number 3 and number 4 seeds are arranged electronically. The computerized arrangement of draw is done for all seeds. The rest unseeded players are hand picked.
