  1. Having race both the 450 is easier to ride. A 250 two stroke has qualities I like better and the same goes with the 450. A 250 two stroke will make you work much harder to keep up with the power of the 450.

  2. well said mx matt ! I would also like to add that the newer 4 strokes IE.crf450x Etc. are not hard to start at all there is a specific way to start them easy but with out knowing what bike your on we will leave that one open for discussion.:-)

    Keep Roostin,

    motocrossman

  3. Keep in mind that the 450 will be quite a bit heavier.  If you are fairly big, and strong, you shouldn't have much trouble once you get used to it.

Depending on what exactly you are riding now (and how ragged out it is) you might want to stick to a smaller bike, but with more power - you will catch up, use less fuel (important if you are racing) and if you do wipe out, you don't have a heavy azz bike landing on you.

  4. the 2 stroke is a lighter bike, however the 450 has more power evenly distributed on the throttle. the 250 will have to be revved up high to compete thats the downfall.....but if your agressive/challenge worthy..... go 2 stroke

  5. mx matt has it right. i have raced 2 strokes and 4 strokes.i currently race a yamaha 450f in the vet 30+ class.it is easier to go fast on but you can get more tired faster on it.for fun i hop on my sons 125 2stoke.i can almost run the same lap time on it,but it requires alot more effort.

  6. I find it easier to ride the 450. the 250 requires too much rider effort to go fast....

  7. If you're getting left behind, it may not have anything to do with the bike.

  8. Never raced one, but I can tell you they are as hard as h**l to start !!!

Ask someone if you can try to start theirs, to see if you can handle it.

    Don't say I didn't warn you.

  9. 2 stroke 4 life!

  10. The 450.

It will have loads more torque throughout the range and so wont be subject to the limited powerband of a 2 stroke.

Wheelies are much easier to find and control :o)

  11. 4 stroke is easier

  12. the 250, it's lighter

  13. This question also really depends on a few things. What skill level are you & what type of riding do you do. How long have you been riding? Have you ever ridden any 4 stroke, even a 250 4stoke? Are you play riding or racing or both?  But a general answer is that it definately is a "different" machine. As another response stated, you don't have the powerband but you have TONS more tourqe. It is a heavier bike & requires a bit more body english to control. Also the throttle control is completely different as well. With a 2-stroke you can simply let off the gas and coast off or over a jump. There is so much more engine braking with a 4-stoke that if you try that you will end up over the bars, you must throttle over jumps on a 4. The biggest thing is that it takes awhile before people of can go fast on a 4, especially of moderate to begginner skill . Most people find it easier to go fast on a 2 stoke. Sadly 2 strokes are a dying breed. In a few more years little kids are going to be asking, "what were 2 strokes & what did they sound like?" Hope this helped
