Has anybody had a similar experience, especially with the procedures of the main Atlanta airport or through Airtran?

  1. I was just through Atlanta last month but the only dog I saw was in a carrier.  He is going to be in a carrier, right?  He'll be fine, just keep talking to him.  It is a lot on those little guys especially having to ride the bus in-between terminals.  They are not the greatest at slow and easy.

  2. First thing I can say is don't check your dog.  There's too much risk of the carrier coming open for any reason, and the dog will be spooked and run away.

Dachshunds are small enough that you can fit them in a carrier underneath the seat in front of you.  It's very simple in that you can treat him/her just like a normal piece of carry-on luggage.  Don't open the carrier during flight, though as very bad things can happen if he/she gets out.

Potty time is a little difficult in that ATL is a very large airport and Air Tran is in some of the furthest concourses (C and D).  Make sure you get what needs to be done, done, because it may be a couple of hours before you see grass again.
