During the mid January year in 2003, a devastating bushfire struck in Canberra, Australia. This is the second largest insured loss bushfires in Australia. Canberra is located around national parks which is a potential danger zone for bushfire to occur. What led to the bushfire was high temperature, low humidity, lightning strikes and strong gusty winds. This led to a sequence of bushfires in the Kosciuszko and Namadgi national parks at the ACT enclosing Canberra. Over these overwhelming days, gusts of forceful winds forced the fire into the forests around Canberra. It got even worse on the 18th of January 2003. The condition of the bushfire changed powerfully and the fire spread to numerous residential areas in Canberra. The impact of the unforgettable was enormous. More than 520 houses were lost; thousands of hectares of forest parks were destroyed and burnt. It is estimated that $250 million was used towards the damages. There were many particular economic, social and environmental impacts that occurred in Canberra. The economic impact was over 600 applications for support from the Canberra Bushfire Recovery Appeal was accepted. The social impacts were that four people died during shocking disaster. Some people was stressing that they couldn’t trace their family and friends. Environmental impacts were many of the national parks was ruined including the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Namadgi National Park also the city areas. Many volunteering fire-fighters were acknowledged greatly for risking their lives for others. The Canberra bushfires pointed out that it was crucial to educate people what is the safety procedure in case of an emergency. The education is not only for bushfires but also other natural hazards.
