  1. Some empty boxes, these are great to play in, and decorate.  You need dress-up clothes, real dishes, shoes, etc. for the dramatic play area.  Books are a MUST.  A science area, a math area.  Puzzles.  Sensory table (water table).

  2. First Aid Kit:

    Band-aids

    Cold compress

    tweezers

    scissors

money for pay phone (if leaving the building)

    triangle bandage

    water (for washing/drinking)

    soap/sanitizer

emergency numbers (if leaving the building)

any medications that children may need (if leaving the building)

    ace bandage

    Classroom Materials:

Crayons (size depends on age of child)

    Markers (washable)

    Finger paint

    Tempera paint

    Paint cups

    Paint brushes

    Watercolor paint

    Construction paper

    Plain paper

Lined paper (if working on writing)

    Child size table, chairs

    Open shelves to store toys

    Blocks (Lego's, waffle, duplo)

    Cars (match box, little tykes)

    Dress up

    Babies (dolls, strollers, blankets, bottles)

    Food (plastic/vinyl)

Books (board or paper depending on age)

    Lacing beads

    Puzzles

    Balls (outside and inside)

You will need a place to store your materials away from the children and the children will need "Cubbies" to store their stuff.

As the other person stated, if you are starting up in a center, the center should provide most of the larger items.  My center gets a lot of it's supplies (from art to toys to books) from Discount School Supply.  I also get things for my room from local second hand stores, families, and garage sales.

Your state licensing regulations should be able to give you a complete list of items needed for the first aid kit.

There is a book "Caring for Our Children" that my center uses for policies and stuff that you can download from the Internet (it is a large file).  Also if you can get your hands on a copy of the Environmental Rating System books that can help you set up your room.

    Hope this helps :)

  3. If it's a preschool class...here are just the basics.  In reality, you'll need a whole lot more.

    Large Pencils

    Small Pencils

    Crayons

    Markers

    Tempra Paint

    Fingerpaint

    Construction Paper (Lots)

    Large Paper (Fingerpaint or other)

    White paper

    File Folders

    Tape

    Stapler + Staples

    Scissors (child and adult)

Collage Materials (which could be anything)

First Aid Kit (usually your program will designate what needs to come in these, but if not, make sure to have various sizes of bandaids and bandages, some means to make a cold compress, and gloves...those are the most used items)

    Tissues

    Paper towels

    Gloves

    Books

    Playdough

Those are just the bare bones sort of things...essentially, you'll need puzzles, games, sorting activities, dress up clothes, puppets, blocks, science center items, tables, chairs, etc., but those should come in your classroom if you are working for a program that has been established..
