Can anyone advise if a child wear spects from the age of 6-7 years, will he be required to wear it forever?

Can someone advise me from his/her personal experience that if a child is wearing spects from the age of 6-7 years, will he be required to wear it through out his life or there are ways of improving eye-sight even after wearing spects? If there are ways, I would appreciate any ans you can provide me with. Thanks

  1. when you get older you can get contact lenses or surgery to correct your vision (I'm not sure about age requirements on this, you would have to research it yourself)

  2. my daughter has been wearing glasses since the age of 2, she's 6 now. doc said she will always have to wear glasses but when she gets older she might be able to wear contacts.she's nearsighted so i don't know if surgery can fix it but i had eye surgery when i was about her age and now i have glacoma. so i really don't think i will even consider surgery for her at this time.

  3. Both my children started wearing glasses at the age of 4, my eldest is 10 now and now only has to wear them for reading, the younger still wears them all the time.  hard to say what your experience will be.  Remember that specs are really cool now, give kids a free run to choose their own frames, (within reason of course!), and make a real fuss of how great they look.

  4. The lens inside of the eye of a child is still quite jelly like up until and after the age of eight. Once this lens starts to become more rigid after this age it is more likely to say there is a possibility that the child will wear glasses for longer (this does not mean everyone over the age of 8 who currently wears them will wear glasses forever). Because they eye is still forming with the glasses correction this will help improve the unaided vision. It is more than likely unless it is a high prescription your child will not need to wear them forever. Some people can wear them for as little as 3 months, however this will depend on individual case.

  5. My daughter is 5 and has been told to wear specs. I asked the same question to her opthamologist and have been told that as she grows older her power will keep getting lower and her vision will be better, but in very few cases do the need to wear specs go away completely. Then kids have the option to go for conrtacts and maybe after 18 yrs laser surgery.

  6. Do a search for "Bates method".
