I have a sony HDTV with a HD/DVR cable box(Scientific Atlanta) from Cablevision of Long Island, NY.They are connected with a monster cable HDMI cable. Recently I have had some issues with channels not coming in at all. I tune to a channel I should be getting and all I get is a black screen, however if I press the "Info" button i can see information on what should be on the screen. This happens with both regular and High-def channles, but not all of them. Also on some of the High definition channels I get "Static" where the image blips and the sound cuts out, it varies but sometimes makes the shows unwatchable. The cabel line coming in is split a few times and is not a direct connectoin form outside. could this be the issue? if so would replacing the wires/splitters help?

  1. I have the exact same set-up.

The DVR is sensitive to power level. So yes, that could be the problem. And the effect will vary with channel, and even from time to time.

But it's also possible, but less likely, that you have an HDCP handshake problem. To eliminate that as a problem, hook-up with  the component cables that cablevision gave you and see if you still have the problem.

Email me with a description of how things are being split, and approximate cable lenghths and I'll try to help you. It's important to uindicate what splitter types are being used (2 way, 3 way or 4 way) even if not all of the ports are being used.
