Question:

Can anyone define the exact job description of a Cairo Boab and specify how much we should pay them per month?

Please do NOT say just 'pay them what you feel you should' etc.. I would like to get an accurate view of the majority so please be specific in your boab's job description and monthly LE payment etc. I am asking about the extra payment above the monthly fee that most residents pay for building maintenance which I believe in most buildings is added together to pay the basic salary of the boab.

I want to make sure I am being fair to my boab!

Many thanks.

  1. the bawab gets a salary from the person who is responsible for the building .

as a tenant , you can give him 40 or 50 LE extra .

if you have a car that he washes , give him  a total of 60 or 70 LE .

every time you send him or a member of his family to get you something from the market, give him 2 or 3 LE according to the task he makes .

if you live in a moderate region , give him less , ie 30 /40LE

and 50 /60 LE  with car , total.

it all depends on how good he is .

  2. lol..job desription? you would not believe how the "job description" concept is totally, utterly, not recognized or even acknowledged down from the "Bawaab" till the highest level of authority in Egypt..

Job description here is a fairy tale, illusion, something they listen  about but don't dare to apply it, the whole system is screwed up because of the vagueness of responsibilities..

    it's a long story..

Payment for the guard is somehow low, but most of them increase their income by doing something useful instead of just sitting at  the entrance doing nothing except frightening the burglars, they can wash the cars, bring some stuff to the landlord, etc.. but all that depends on the "job description" you decide, if he is alone or with his family?..give him between 400-500/ month but you can ask around too
