Can anyone else relate to my strange situation?

OK, I'll try to make this short -

This AM as I was waiting for my train on an outdoor platform, I noticed that the white skirt I was wearing had a huge yellow (coffee-like) stain on the front that I didn't notice when I put it on at home. Ugh! So as soon as I got close to work, I stopped by a local pharmacy and picked up a bottle of bleach. I was lucky to come in to work a few minutes early so I rushed to the ladies room to try and remove the ugly yellow stain. Fortunately, the bleach removed the stain BUT as the skirt was drying, I noticed a new stain appearing. It was a light purple color. What could've caused this!?

I'm confused and don't want to continue using bleach on my skirt because I don't want to ruin it and stink like bleach all day.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks!

  1. There isn't a lot you can do today, short of spraying cologne on to cover the bleach odor or a little body powder.

I'm hoping you diluted the bleach before you put it on your skirt.  Otherwise, it will eat a hole in your skirt.  Yellow stains, like the one you mentioned, can be caused by several different things.  Do you notice the stains on anything else? If you live in a rural area and are on a well, it could be due to hard water. Adding borax or baking soda to your wash water will soften the water, also, Calgon once had a water conditioner to add to hard wash water.

Your washing machine might have a small rust spot in it somewhere causing the stains.

If you have ever used "Shout" or any other stain removers, they could be reacting with the type of fabric the skirt is made of, which might have caused the yellow stain to begin with.

A dryer that is too hot can cause yellowing. Try hanging or laying yellowed garments in the sun before using strong stain removers. The sun is a great natural stain remover and it also kills many types of bacteria and fungus. Hope this helps.:)

  2. on white you should have used hydrogen peroxide.  I have no idea why you have all these spots now showing.  You should have checked the label before using the bleach.

  3. yeah, it was the bleach. you need to dilute it before applying it directly to clothes. it's pretty much ruined now, sorry. yeah but i meant that it now has a bleach stain which is to my knowledge impossible to remove. but if you do get it out, let me know because i have a bag of clothes waiting for an answer to a bleach stain, ha
