  1. anyone against the fair tax definitely hasn't read it.   how can keeping your entire check( no fed, SS, or med taxes) and paying the same price for products and services be a bad thing.  and everyone gets a "prebate check"  it has nothing to do with income.  and the number of US businesses that would come back to the US would be incredible. go by  the fair tax not what your neighbor says it is. look at your pay stub....... give yourself back those taxes they now take out and tell me which you would rather have?

  2. Do you think the states will stop their income taxes or the city and counties stop their sales taxes? No. So, you'll be taxed 35 to 40 percent on everything you buy. Food, and medicine included. Then a few years down the road, they'll reimplement income taxes. Are you kidding me, that's how it works.

  3. The Fair Tax is a billion times better than what we have now! The Democrates don't like it because they will not be able to pander to the low income types.

I bet most of the people knocking the Fair Tax have not read the book on it. If you have not read the book you need to shut up because you can't possibly understand it. If the Democrates don't like it it must be a good thing....

  4. And you can eat all the fudge you want and not gain weight!

We need REAL policy ideas, not fantasy.

  5. HELLO , thay want 2 control and have more power

  6. The FAIR Tax is not fair because it imposes a greater burden on low and moderate income people..

The FAIR tax proposal is to create a national sales tax - e.g. on food and clothing etc.  The proposal says that anyone earning below the poverty line will get a rebate.

Have you looked at the definition of poverty in this country?

A single person would have to earn less than $10,400 - and a family of four less than $22,200 to get this rebate.

Anyone earning more would be paying this tax.

People who earn less money spend a greater percentage of their income on food and clothing.

For example, a single person spends $5,000 per year on food clothing.  If he/she earns $20,000 - twice the federal poverty level - that person has spent 25% of his/her income on food and clothing.  Another person earning $50,000 only spends 10%.

Say then the tax is 5% - so each person pays $250 in taxes.  That $250 means a lot more to someone earning $20,000 that someone earning $50,000.

Now the real kicker - the FAIR Tax is 23% - so a person would see the cost of food and clothing skyrocket!  And most people earning under $80,000 would see their taxes INCREASE!

Thus, the FAIR tax is regressive - it hurts low income people and benefity the upper income.  It's a subsidy to the rich.

I believe that if someone has become wealthy in this country then they should be willing to help support this country that has done so well by them.

  7. From fairtax.org:

"The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn."

The poor and the middle class spend a much greater portion of their total income (and total net worth) on new goods and services than the rich.  So they will be hit harder.

Also note that the "prebate" goes to the rich as well as the poor.  It also only goes to people with a valid social security number.  The homeless, temporary residents (legal or illegal) and tourists will still have to pay a 23% sales tax!

  8. because it is not fair, and it does not work.

  9. I do not think that any party is 100 percent behind paying a sales tax rather then an income tax.  I personally have one MAJOR argument against the proposed Sales Tax Increase: If you are like a sickening majority of people that spend more then what you earn (unemployed, maxing out credit cards, retired and living on Social Security, etc....) then you are paying taxes on goods and services purchased.

At least currently you are only paying Federal Income taxes on income not on expenditures.  Another way of looking at it: you have  a spendable income of 100000 a year but you have a 1 million dollar income stream.  So then you are only paying 30,000 dollars a year in taxes (assuming 30 percent taxes).  You are only paying 3 percent of your income in taxes!  Simply fabulous!!!  Here is another case study: You make 50,000 a year and you spend an average of 52000 dollars a year.  You are then being taxed 30 percent of 52000 (2000 of which is debt) in addition to your earned income.

You want FAIR taxes.  Tax everyone at 10 percent of ANY income!  The ONLY exclusion Social Security or Social Security Disablity.  Anything else 10 percent!  NO EXCEPTIONS!  No exemptions, no deductions, nada!

And then tax corporations 10 percent of their profits.  Remove all forms of credits and tax abatements.  Again you earn it you get taxed on it!  Thats just my own personal opinion.

  10. Because it doesn't punish the evil rich or the evil corporations; it's FAIR, and that's just not fair!

  11. I'm not sure, but I think democrats would rather enjoy distribution of wealth by the government instead of enjoying true freedom to control their own dollars and their own life for that matter....

  12. I'm not a Democrat, and I oppose the misnamed "Fair Tax" because it's not "fair" by any means.

EVERYONE should pay 12 or 13% of their gross income, and nothing else.  That would be a fair tax.

  13. As others have said, the 'Fair' tax is anything BUT fair. The "Fair" tax will only help the very RICHEST of Americans and the very poorest. Everyone else in the middle, where the vast majority of Americans are economically situated, will be SQUEEEEEEZED by the "Fair" tax. Imagine if the "Fair" tax is set at 20%. If you make $250k per year you pay $50k in taxes. If you make $30k per year you pay $6k in taxes and are only left with $24k. That $6k for those making $30k will affect someone much MORE. Here's a homework assignment for you and everyone else who answers this question. Go to FairTax.org and click on the "About Us" section. Then cut and paste some of the names found there into a Google search and you'll see that many if not ALL of them are Millionaires and BILLIONaires. Is it any wonder why they would want a "Fair" tax that helps them get even RICHER?

    VOTE OBAMA in '08!!

  14. this is the increase on the sales tax rate right?

basically it will encourage the rich to keep their money instead of spend it...

right now they can spend money on a business and count it as a deductible... billions are spent every year and it encourages a lot of growth...

this probably won't happen with a fair tax...
