  1. 1st lets start with collision.  Covers your vehicle if it is hit or you hit something.  Comprehensive is everything else.  Fire, wind, rain, vandalism, theft, falling objects, hitting animal (most companies).  Hope that helps

  2. Comprehensive insurance pays for replacement or repairs for your vehicle if it is stolen or damaged. Comprehensive is also referred to as other than collision. The deductible is the amount you pay for a covered loss, the insurance company pays the amount above the deductible up to the market value of your vehicle. The greater your deductible, the less expensive your insurance will be.

  3. It's the first part of the loss, that you pay for.

If your comp deductible is $500 and you have $600 in damage, you get $100 from the insurance company.  If you have $400 in damage, you get nothing.

  4. The comprehensive deductible is the amount you have to pay before the insurance company pays.  Let's say you have a $100 comprehensive deductible.  On your way to work a stone hits your windshield and cracks it.  You take your car to a glass shop and they replace it for $250.  You will pay $100 and the insurance company pays the rest.

Want to save money on auto insurance?  One way is to increase your deductibles.  I personally carry $500 deductibles.  The money I save in premium each year more than pays to replace a windshield.
