Can anyone explain exactaly what the SWAT does?

i know they do the whole lets go in and get em thing but inbetween that what do they do?

and is that ALL they do??

Seriously, trooper is right.  In smaller departments they work a beat until needed.  In larger departments there is plenty of work for them.  They handle hostage situations, barricaded suspects, entry for search warrants, diplomat escorts, etc.  They also set aside time to train.  Training is the key to the difference between an officer who is swat trained and a swat officer.

On larger departments, they train full time until needed.

On smaller departments, they do the same work as the other officers, and are only deployed as needed.
