Can anyone explain how to replace a head gasket?

I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am w/ a blown head and head gasket. Can someone please help explain how i'd fix it myself?

Not an easy task could end up worse thant when you started. Unless you are mechanically inclined but is a job for a pro.

First, you need to know why it blew.

Chances are, your head is warped.  Remove it and find a good shop to mill it flat.  (if you have 2 heads, you need to mill both)  If it needs to be replaced, you should replace both.

The rest is just putting it back together.
