Can anyone explain the Chevy Traverse commercial where the guy is ironing a dress and cleaning the toilet?

I want to know more of the storyline. The guy is ironing and making reservations for dinner for two. He says it is their 6 month anniversary. Then he holds up a little girl's dress. They show the Traverse and then go to a scene of him cleaning the toilet. I can not figure out this commercial and wonder if anyone knows, is there more to the story that I've missed?

  1. This "perfect guy" may be ironing a small woman's top, but it looks like a child's dress. I think this is a vaguely creepy commercial.

  2. The commercial is geared toward the Traverse's target audience:  women.  (it's just an added bonus for g*y guys!)

"Building on the momentum of the successful Malibu launch, the all-new Traverse crossover is taking the competition head on. It has more seating than Toyota Highlander, more cargo space than Honda Pilot and the segment’s best EPA-rated highway fuel economy, at 24 mpg. It is a no-compromises crossover with an unmatched combination of features. The message is that Chevy believes the Traverse is everything you wished for … and then some – and the ads include imagery that is sure to quicken the pulse of many female viewers, a key target market of the crossover."

  3. I must say, for a commercial that is so "dumb" or "absurd", it sure seems to have you all talking about it and the car as well....I mean you're doing research about it on the internet....I'd say that's marketing genius!

  4. I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't get this one.  I get the guy ironing and mentioning the anniversary but I thought he was ironing a "feminine" shirt and there fore  was g*y.  They then shift to the car and then back to the guy who was cleaning.

I did recall that it was a Chevy so at least the brand was recognized.

  5. It's a play off the series of books called "p**n for Women" which are published by Chronicle Books.

  6. This is supposed to be a comparison between the perfect car and the perfect man!! He does housework (ironing and toilet cleaning), remembers anniversaries,  and looks beautiful.. In fact the commerical failed, as I didn't even know what was being advertised until it came on a 2nd time.

  7. I agree that this guy is g*y. He is doing chores because he's the housekeeper/maid. That is why he is ironing so many clothes and cleaning the toilet. The little girl's dress is not his daughter's which is why the anniversary he is celebrating is only 6 months. Otherwise they would have probably made the anniversary a couple of years if this was supposed to be a conventional marriage.

  8. VERY SMART ADVERTISING!!! They succeeded in getting our  attention! And even better that you remembered it was Chevy Traverse! I, personally, only remember that smile!  But that is the goal--getting you to think about it. And secondly, with all the women watching the Olympics it was a very smart move! If I could only remember what the car looks like they would have done better :) Honestly, he really didn't have to be all that cute if he was willing to make plans for dinner, iron and clean a toilet!

  9. Totally lame commercial.  One of the worst ever, for sure!

  10. it's like a hot guy, the anniversary is supposed to be a girlfriend thing.

but it's really his wife, and he has a daughter(the dress)

    that's why it's a cross-over suv commerical

  11. DUMB DUMB DUMB... This is just the dumbest commercial I have seen throughout all of the Olympic commercials.  The dress does look like a little girl's dress. But then the toilet scene at the end is just bad. It in no way sells this car.

I think that the truck is supposed to be perfect for this anniversary just as his assistance to his girlfriend by cleaning, ironing etc. But Chevy bringing in the comparison to the "p**n for Women" book just doesn't explain why its used in a car commercial.

  12. So why does he have 50 or so towels stacked on the couch alongside the little girl's dress/women's blouse?

  13. The commercial is supposed be featuring the Dream Guy and the Dream Car. He washes and irons clothes(shirtless), doesn't forget things like anniversaries even the meaningless ones like a six month anniversary, he even cleans the toilet without you asking. And he is not ironing a little girls dress, that is a woman's, albeit a small woman's, top.  Perfect guy, Perfect Crossover SUV what more could you ask for. But Chevy is pushing it because you have to REALLY be paying attention to the commercial to get it.  And no you have not missed a thing.

  14. I agree.....this is the most stupid commercial I have ever seen.  That's saying a lot.  I would never buy a Traverse just because of this idiotic commercial.  I do not care what GM is trying to say.  I guess this is just one more reason why GM is losing market share and stock value!

  15. OK, I thought the guy was g*y.  Crossover...it's HIS dress.

  16. Totally absurd commercial.  I've seen it like ten times now, and still can't appreciate it.  Okay - I get it:  hot guy.  Well-behaved.

    And?

    SUV?

    WTF?

  17. lol I have been wondering the same thing!! I hope someone can come up with an explanation because to me this commercial makes no sense.

  18. i think he's g*y.  like he is traversing to the other side.  that being a g*y side.
