Supposedly, you hit more accurately and further with a thin layer of Vaseline on your driver face....

  1. that is 100% false.  If anything it will not go as far.  no way that is true.  If you have a bad swing, a thin layer of Vaseline won't fix a slice or hook. lol

  2. This practice is against the rules. The theory is that if there is a lubricant on the face to the club, if you hit the ball in a manner that would impart side-spin on the ball (slice or hook), the lubricant would reduce the friction between the club face and the ball, thereby eliminating the unwanted side-spin. That's the theory, but it doesn't work.

  3. The reason that you would do this is so that you can see exactly where you are hitting the ball (I:E: Toe or Heel etc etc)

This technique has NOTHING to do with actually improving your driving apart from showing you how you may be mishitting the ball.

  4. I don't think anyone has tried it for about 100 years.  Long long ago some trying to gain an advantage would put a thin layer of grease on the club face and it did reduce spin somewhat allowing for straighter shots.  The Rules of Golf outlawed it years ago - and with all the advances in equipment I'm sure there would not be any advantage today.

  5. Vasoline is said to take the spin off the ball thus it will go farther.. True or not I dont know because IT IS AGAINST THE RULES OF GOLF

  6. Sounds kinky!

  7. Yep. Reduces ANY spin on the golf ball and hence results in a ballooned shot or a 'knuckle ball'. Ball will go straighter in whatever direction the clubface is pointing as the ball leaves the club  i.e. no curve in any direction.

Problem is... backspin actually keeps the ball in the air so without backspin you need a super high tee and catch the ball on the upswing to get a good result! Good fun trying but agaianst the rules - so don't get caught!!!

  8. Only thing i can think of is it would eliminate spin causing the ball to go straighter but definitely not farther.
