Can anyone explain this house fly situation to me?

There is this spot in my back yard where I let my dog go out to use the bathroom. For some reason she rolls around in this spacific spot and all these house flies come from what seems under the ground and swarm her.

When I bring her in the is this big swarm of flies and one by one within 15 minutes they are dropping to the floor dying. There are times where I will sweep up a dust pan full of flies just from them coming in after the dog rolls around in that one specific spot.

I am keeping her away from it now, but she doesn't roll around in any other spots of the yard... I am wondering if the people who lived there before buried an animal, but it still doesn't explain the weird actions of the flies. Also, I don't think the corpse would still be under there rotting if it were buried flesh. It's been a while since anybody but myself living there.

This is in Louisiana.

  1. After a bath dogs will frequently roll around to get the new smell off or to put a new smell on.  The spot clearly has a smell your dogs wants on her.  Try spraying the spot with something smelly, perfume, ammonia whatever.  See how your dog reacts.  Then water the spot to wash out the new smell and see if she goes back.  Flies may be attracted to the same smell as your dog.  As far as them dying, other than some flea or tic medication you provide your dog I haven't the faintest.

  2. Its most likely a combination mud/poo in the backyard that attracts the flys. Then the flea/tick solution you use on your dog has been killing the flies. Thats my only suggestion.
