Can anyone explain to me how putting and chipping contests work?

Can anyone suggest some interesting/different/fun ways to put off a chipping and putting contest? Our company is holding a golf tournament and I've been assigned to research chipping/putting contests and ways to put them off.

Thanks

  1. Putting in itself is all about handling pressure. So try somethings to put pressure on the players. Make it where you lose twice as many points missing a putt then,  points gain making a putt. Try the amount of points earned is effective by the distance. That is if a person miss a three feet putt they lose ten points, but if they miss a ten feet put they lose 3 points. Also move the ball off the green, make them put from the ruff or even 50 yards down the fairway.

Chipping has more options. Make them chip out of a bunker or over a bunker. Make the players hit a flop shot, Put a 10ft circle on the green and make the players land it in the circle and keep it in the circle. Make the players hit a punch and run, Tell the players that they have to land the ball off the green and run it up near the hole. Put a ball on the green in their path, and tell them that they have to hit the ball on the green with the ball they are chipping with (like billiards). You can also do the billiard thing with the putting contest.

  2. i'm assuming there will be more than a few people who are not great golfers at this thing so you should keep it simple.  i would suggest getting kite string and making a track similar to miniature golf.  have about 9 holes and every time the ball goes outside of the string it is a 1 stroke penalty.  it should be about 4 ft wide and can have curves and turns leading to the hole.  you can use tees to hold the string down.  for shipping you can make a large target around a fairly simple shot and give points for which circle the ball is in.  there are a few brands of spray paint golf courses use and they probably wouldnt mind if you used it.
