Can anyone explain to me......?

Question

how comparison in a competitive way and attaching superlative descriptions to the zodiac signs (i.e. this sign is the most (adjective) but this one is the most (different adjective)) can be detrimental to the true purpose of astrology? Does this type of thinking do anything to raise an individual's consciousness and awareness, or does it do more to keep the individual trapped in their own ego-driven power struggles?

I was going to ask a Saturn question, but I felt like asking this instead tonight.

LOL! I agree! it can be a bit funny at times ....just for fun...lol....but it does get a little old every now and then and sometimes it is hard to find something really interesting posted in this section....lol....I try to ask more involved questions...but I seldom get clear answers..if any at all! LOL!

Still have a lot of questions about aspects and placements but never really have the urge to ask them here...not sure anyone will want to try to answer them!?

It's difficult though, sometimes...I think that if a good answer involves thoroughness and even detail...some don't even bother...kind of disappointing...

I also think that too many 'competitive' questions about the signs of the zodiac actually deter others from wanting to ask astrological questions at times - it does for me anyway...would anyone be willing to take the time to think seriously for a moment to answer?...or will they just move on to the next P&S type horoscope questions they have grown fond of?!

And I also feel those competitive questions only seperate by our sun signs rather than unite us in astrology...? Could just be me though...lol!

***Just for good measure I will go ahead and ask a question that I have just not been able to figure out on my own - don't laugh because it is probably too simple for me to see it right off - lol - and I will hope to get a few answers as well! ;)

I think those types of questions tend to breed a lot of negative competition and fighting between the signs. I gather from reading here that many persons like these competitions? I figure that many of them are beginners, and we are all beginners at some point in time. I'm not an expert, but I do prefer the serious questions, such as the ones about aspects.

Another thing, it does seem to me as if there are way too many of the competitive type of zodiac battle scenarios on here. Are they detrimental? In the long run, I am not sure. On the other hand, I don't see how they can be helpful to understanding astrology when most persons are simply going to say their their own sign is the most beautiful, strongest, smartest or quickest.

detrimental to the true purpose of astrology? i think that depends on each people that follows astrology.... some geminis can be extremely two faced, others can be extremely good at making speeches, others volatile, depends on what things each person decides to be or what in astrology terms is said as "in a person's whole chart".

edit: i think people should avoid everything with the negative label on..... it's more healthy

I think its more toward the persons ego.Very interesting question...

edit:Yeah I guess it can be fun at times...but its nice to get serious and ask serious questions so we can learn and get more advance then just staying at one level. I agree with janet.

I would def want to reach that level where I can interpret charts.

Hi no belief required,

I used to think that people just starting out in Astrology did this to get comfortable with the subject and then would take it to the next level - you know like kids who need to have fun in order to learn; but lately it has been bothering me too. It is turning a subject, which for me holds a lot of spiritual truth, into a game which there are winners and losers. Superlatives on sun signs does nothing to help anyone.

Today someone posted an answer to my question by saying something to the effect that he was surprised that a "horoscope expert" could ask such a deep question.  Well, that goes to show the impression that some people have when they visit the horoscope section and see these silly but competitive questions.  It's okay every once in awhile for fun, but geeze, it seems like there are so many of them now.........

Those questions seem to lean toward negative replies, and often the questions themselves are negative oriented. So I don't see how they help or add anything positive to the discussion of astrology.

Most of those questions are so immature that it's pathetic. It's as if someone decides that they can't make it through life unless a bunch of others on here tell her that her sign is the strongest or sexiest. What is even more sad is to see someone who claims to be a psychologist taking part in feeding the validation, and saying that her sign is the strongest or sexiest. A psychologist of all people should know what causes that need for validation and should not encourage and enable it.

I think it depends on your experience and skills level. It is really good to learn through practicing the basics and the intermediate information.

You will find that most people know that they have the attributes mentioned in these types of answers.

But then eventually you will be able to take it to other levels that can be helpful. For example - telling someone they are quick to temper ...they probably already know this ;))...it does help to verify or establish a baseline. But really how does this help the person with a quick temper that is causing problems in their life?

So, when you eventually take it to a higher level, the person might benefit better from learning ways to assist in redirecting this explosive reactive energy to positive channels in their life, or simply steps to cool off etc...

Either way - if I am reading your point correctly - I don't see anything wrong with any of this - just as long as you know what it is and that there really is More as you apply this tool - you will eventually learn how to manage the tendencies towards a positive outcome and personal growth ;) - This is Why the Aspects in a chart are important BTW ;)))

Hello, I don't know how those competitive zodiac games do anything but continue the idea that astrology is just about stupid horoscopes and sun signs.  I so wish there was just an astrology section.  What happened to few astrologers we had that answered questions regularly like aspicco?  Maybe he got tired of it too.  Oh and Astrolady use to be on here all the time too.
