Can anyone explain to me the theme of FAMILY in the anime Spirited Away?

Mainly the portrayal of the theme of family in the movie, where it appears in the movie and how this could relate to modern Japanese life.

They seemed americanized to me.

The dad was fat and the mom was kinda fake.

Neither parent payed much attention to their child, who was very emotionally imature/spoiled.  There was nothing too special about any of them though.  However, it did show that Chihiro/Sen loved them enough to rescue them and recgonize them right away.

There wasn't too much about the family in that movie, because the parents were pigs for the most of it.

the fact that they care for each other and help each other out through hard times. like how chihiro helped haku find his real name. or how Kamaji gave Chihiro the train ticket.
