Can anyone explain to me why people LOVE sad movies?

I prefer comedies but I always get told "You have to watch this movies, it is so sad". I don't see the point! Can anyone explain why to me?

the only movie worth watching has to have robots and at least one explosion. that's my opinion

u see tha type of struggles otha ppl go thru and it makes u appreciate ur life more

I guess it's so you can look at some poor sap and go "sheesh, I'm glad I'm not that guy!" Feel better off others misery - beats me!
