I drained out the pond in the spring to remove the debris at the bottom , as I do every year.

The past few years there have been definite frog population in the pond and usually always saw them on one of the lilly pads , however this year, have not seen hardly one.

What would be the reason for this?

why and how so?

  1. I think it has to do with the bad weather last year. Your frog may have died. It won't go else where because frogs always spawn where they come from.

  2. Maybe they moved to a better pond nearby.

  3. could be something is off in your pond. research has shown that the amphibians are the first animals to notice something wrong in the ecosystem. I would make sure the pond water has the correct pH. That could be the problem. Good luck.

  4. I don't have a pond, but there were always lots of Frogs around.I think it has something to do with the continuing drought.

We have been in a drought for 4 years, and this year we had no real Spring.Winter ended in February, and Summer came in Late March.I am in South East North Carolina.

We are 9" of rain deficit as of July 1st

  5. Can't answer that but I have noticed the same thing in my garden pond. Frog numbers are  declining for some reason

  6. Frogs come from tadpols that are hatched eggs like fish also do.  with the drought it could have made the area they usually spawn in not hatch the eggs well even if the water was just a little low.

  7. Frog populations sometimes cycle every couple of years due to predators finding a nice clump of them and staying around a while.  Maybe you've got a snake or two close by.

  8. Probably found a better pad in a more upbeat neighbourhood
