  1. I can tell you why it passed. B/c the U.S. wasn't getting a cut of the action. Tell me why it's legal to blow all your life savings at a U.S. casino but they want to make it illegal to do the same thing online at a poker site?

A few years down the road, more or less, it will be legalized and regulated by the U.S. government in which they tax your winnings (taxing winnings has already been started by the IRS for any tournament winnings over $5,000 at a casino. They  may also choose to charge you a membership fee for joining a poker site to make even more money. Don't be surprised.

  2. Read the post in the source below.  I interviewed Greg raymer and he talked about this...he explained it pretty well.

Playing online poker is not illegal for players.

  3. The major anti-gambling law was some 1960s law to do with sports betting on the phone.  Clearly, it was pretty ineffective since it was written prior to the Internet.  But the government has generally taken the position that is pertains to the Internet anyway.

In 2006 a corrupt politician called Bill Frist, decided to add an anti-gambling portion to a completely unrelated port security bill.  It was a must pass bill and since it was added at the eleventh hour it became law.  No debate, no discussion.  Kinda the way the Bush administration likes to roll.

The new bill makes it much harder to transfer money in and out of online gambling companies, and pretty much impossible for online gambling companies to set up in the US.  But weirdly, despite Frist claiming he did this for moral reasons, and talked about the evils of gambling, it completely legalizes and legitimizes online horse betting.  American companies can now allow people in the US to bet the horses.  Can you say 'bribe?'

The general situation at the moment is that it is legal for players to play, but illegal for American financial institutions to directly help them.

So the way to do it, is to play at one of the big sites that still takes American players, and use a foreign money transfer system such as epassporte.com.

All the government has done is make it more hassle for Americans.  But the law is not going to mean that the police kick down your door and drag you kicking and screaming into the streets.

No one has been arrested for playing poker online.

  4. Online poker is LEGAL in USA. It was never illegal. Just some of the sites now doesnt accept americans. But its good some sites like http://bettingwise.hit.bg/FulltiltPoker....

    still accept USA Players
