Perhaps "Mary" could refer to Mary Magdalene rather than the Virgin Mary.  Here's a link that might help.

In Luke's Gospel we have the Annunciation and birth of Jesus where Mary is mentioned.

The only other reference would be at the crucifixion;

" There stood by the cross Mary, His mother."

Of course, courage is implicit here.
