  1. It just depends on what you mean by sportbike. If you need the plastic to pose with, you are probably going to be out of luck. (Though a friend got a 600katana that didn't run for $900 and got it running again for a few hundred more.) If you just want a really nice bike to have fun on, there are tons of options. You could look for an old GPZ750 or an old 750 Interceptor. The old GS750 was another great bike.

I read an article not too long ago where the author went out with a bunch of sport bikes with a fully restored '78 GS1000 and held his own all day long.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to have a ton of fun on two wheels.

  2. thats pretty cheap for a sport bike...youll probably find one thats been twisted up or dropped...

as always my rec. for sport bike is ninja 250..but your talking about 1500-2000

  3. look for a classic suzuki gs

  4. Probably not something ready to ride. You may be able to find a fixer upper that doesn't need a whole lot of work but if your just learning to ride a bike I imagine you don't know how to do repairs and it could get costly if you don't do the work yourself. Save your money and buy a better bike or finacne something. I owned 5 bikes before I ever learned to ride...lol. I bouthgt a couple bikes that needed work, I coulnd't do it myself and never got around to having them fixed. This summer I finally found a good deal on a cheap intruder at a dealer and bought it with a suzuki credit card, gonna be paid off by the end of the summer. Spend a little more and get something you can ride right away.

  5. Ninja 250 or 500 are really nice but expect at least $1500 for a nice one. Honda made a nice small sportbike, I think it's called the VTR 250, i really like them a nice one was on craigslist today for $800, i called him but he hasn't returned my call yet. Just shop around, you might be able to find a nice sport bike for under $1000.
