Question:

Can anyone free me from my torment?

I watch a lot of TV shows that everyone says are good and I, myself, acknowledge the greatness of the shows. The problem is, I get too obsessed with seeking to get the most out of the shows. I feel like I want to "be one" with the shows forever. Thus, I try to memorize every single image and animation. I try to memorize everything that's in the background and all the dialogue. For some reason, I think memorizing everything and figuring out what the plot devices are will enhance my experience to the max. What am I doing wrong? What should I do? Please, I am seeking real advice and not random answers.

  1. As long as you enjoy memorizing shows why are you tormented?  Just go with it and have fun.  That is a talent that actors use to make great movies look real and not like they are looking at cues.  ave you thought about trying theater?  you sound like a natural born actor. Love what you do and your torment will go away.  Only you can do that.  Hope this helps to cheer you up.

  2. dont worry about it. im the same way with books and videogames, as well as movies. i try and get every single detail so i can get the most of it. Most ppl arent like us though, but who cares. As long as we enjoy it.

  3. Sometimes less is more...and in this case, absolutely less is more.  Just simply enjoy the shows and don't try to take everything in.  If you feel like you have to be involved in life, you will lose your own.  Your experience should always be primary, not secondary to self-created realities.

  4. Do you not like it?

Only then does it become a torment.

Does it "enhance your experience to the max" or not?

If it doesnt think about that in your mind while your watching a show and it will soon stop.

  5. nothing.

Geez, I bet your great in bed

  6. t-h-e-i-r   h-e-r-e  THE tv PEOPLE.

  7. If you enjoy analyzing and dissecting your favorite TV shows this way, and if doing so truly enhances your experience of the shows, then why do you think you're doing something wrong?

But your question is about being freed from your "torment" -- so I guess you DON'T actually enjoy your preoccupation with these programs?

In that case, if you find yourself compulsively watching certain TV shows over and over, it may be that you need to break yourself of this addiction.  Go cold turkey, turn the TV off, leave it off, and DON'T WATCH THEM anymore.  Go out -- get out of the house and find something else to do on the nights when those shows are on.  Get a life outside of TV.

If you can't break yourself of your compulsive, obsessive TV watching by yourself, and this addiction is causing you pain and suffering -- seek psychiatric counseling.  Seriously.  You might have OCD -- obsessive-compulsive disorder.

  8. don't worry. i'm also like that with movies, TV shows and books for about 20% of the time. i see nothing wrong. my psychology prof said it's a natural thing that humans do, trying to "feel" the things they see.

but then again, your life is different from the one you see on TV and besides, taking everything in takes the fun out of it. it's like you're being imprisoned by the thing you love and that's not cool. just relax and enjoy. =)

  9. Sounds okay to me. Perhaps you are destined to be a movie maker- go with it!

  10. Perhaps this is the subtle way the gifts within you are being developed.

The message might be moving you towards writing, directing, coaching, production, acting, animation, or any of the various types of current or future work related to this industry that would allow you to improve the quality of viewing.

You will be "doing wrong" if you do not let it do that which it does. Be thankful for the passion. If you find passion in your work, you will not work; only play, get paid, be happy, and contribute to the common good.

Go with the flow that is your gift.   Let the Spirit of the Universe guide you.

  11. it is just a fad and if not your like me i love violence and hand to hand combat so movies like the matrix drive me crazy but that is what i want to do when i get older (something with hand to hand combat)

  12. I admire your ability to go indepth on any subject of interest. You show the capacity to be a very good teacher, or stage director, or a music conductor, a writer, or even a critic who must comment on all the details! Do try to direct your talents to what you really enjoy learning.

It's a natural process too when you think of it. When you encounter something new you feel compelled to extract all the knowledge you can about it. You are building experiences and memories that you can draw upon later.

I'm very keen on classical music and opera. You should hear what Maria Callas (opera singer) says when interviewed as to why she sings certain passages the way she does, the awareness of every detail is amazing, and that's what makes her so great in projecting the right emotions. The same can be said for my fave singer, opera baritone Tito Gobbi, who had an immense knowledge of every role he played in and is fantastic in the role of "Rigoletto" where you can see his craftsmanship in knowing every shade of meaning throughout the entire opera! He really brought it to life, and he was only 34, but very gifted. Those are great qualities to have.
