Question:

Can anyone get through to the CA EDD Unemployment line?

I have a question about my claim that needs to be addressed by a live person, but I've called 56 times today and can't get through.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I've been calling the public information number which is 800-300-5616. I press 1, then 4, then 0 to speak to a live person, but I always get a message stating that the lines are busy and to call back later.

I've been trying to get through for the past two days unsuccessfully.

What's going on? How can I get help?

And please, NO MEAN REMARKS! I've been laid off through no fault of my own, and I'm just looking for advice.

Thanks!

  1. Hang in there! If the system does not disconnect you after the busy message, you might want to try staying on the line. Often calling systems like these hold you in queue until your "turn" comes up. If you disconnect, you go back to the end of the line. If that does not work, keep trying especially in the afternoons as call centers tend to be busy in the mornings especially on Monday mornings.

BTW, I collected unemployment in CA as well when I got laid off a few years ago and it was real helpful. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about it since you (and your employer) paid into the system while you were employed and so when you need it, you should be able to get it. I now have a better job than before I was laid off! Good luck!
