I am considering buying one of these cleaners but don't know if they are really all that good? Also, if I were to purchase one I don't know whaich to go for, so any honest reviews would be appreciated. Thanks

  1. Dyson are useless machines and expensive to repair. You need a VAX Bubble it is much better and a fraction of the price

  2. Difficult to find a review, but here's what Which? said about the DC22.

Please bear in mind that Dyson now have a better warranty & so the comments in this review regarding warranty aren't really relevant any more

    Dyson DC22 Baby

Two dinky Dyson cylinder vacs with small capacities, the Baby DC22s are smaller than other Dyson cylinders and pack away neatly for compact storage.

These models were launched in the UK in February 2008. We haven’t tested one yet but will publish our results in the near future. In the meantime, here are our initial impressions of these vacuum cleaners and some general manufacturer specifications.

There are two models available in the DC22 Baby range – the ‘Animal’ and the ‘Allergy’ (pictured). Both include HEPA filters (designed to keep very small particles in as well as larger ones), so should both be suitable for allergy sufferers - although you may want to wait until our test ratings are in before buying on this basis. .

Weighing 7.3 and 7.1kg respectively, the Baby Animal and Baby Allergy are lighter than other Dyson cylinders, although there are even lighter models available from other brands.

However, the DC22s’ small size also means a smaller dust container – these models can only hold up to 1.2 litres of dust. This means you’ll be emptying them more frequently than most other vacs, but as they’re bagless, frequent emptying may cost you time but not money.

The Allergy version comes with a low profile nozzle which might help when it comes to vacuuming under furniture. The Animal version is the more expensive model at £280, it has a mini turbine head which should make it easier to remove pet hairs and it also has a tool for hard floors. Both machines are designed to be suitable for all floor surfaces.

Pros: Small to store. Being smaller than other Dysons may also make them lighter to carry and make vacuuming on stairs easier.

Cons: Small capacity means more frequent emptying, other Dyson cleaners we've tested have proved noisy, in our annual reliability survey Dyson scored below average.

  3. Sorry cant help with a review but as a gas service engineer i use numatic's vacuum nqs series (they make the smaller henry vac for domestic use) . I've been in more houses with dead or broken dysons than i can count. These little henry's and the bigger ones will happily bounce down the stairs without sending broken plastic parts flying in every direction and suck the nails out of floor boards :) . We have approx 14 numatic cleaners on the firm ranging from 16 years old (mine) to about 5 years old and no probs with them. My apprentice even set mine on fire by sucking up hot coals (not recommended),I just replaced the filter and bag worked just like new.

  4. As an owner of four cats, I can only recommend that you get a Miele Cat and Dog vacuum.  It comes with two turbo brushes (one large for carpets, and a smaller one for sofas etc.)

I have a Dyson (not the models you mention) and it does nowhere near such a good job as the Miele.  Also it is fiddly to use and the Miele is probably cheaper and certainly more solidly built.  See:
