  1. timing comes naturally after you been playing in the team longer because you get to know the players inside of you.. other than that work on your positional play which means how deep do you have to be on kicks and wher u should be on D.. also work on being able to kick off both feet well communicating with the fullback and other wing..

  2. Fijians are the best wingers in the world.  U ask them,,& they say this.

    *SPEED- U should be mobile............(duhhh)

*TIMMING- Here we say "ball and all"

*CONFIDENCE- You can beat your opponent in rugby as a whole.

*& BONE CRUNCHING TACKLES- well that speaks for itself.

work out and keep those shoulders and thighs heavy man.

  3. strengthen your adductors for sidestepping. remember you are faster than 12 so lag behind his pass so you can hit it at speed - wings tend to overrun the ball cause they get excited. When chipping rotate the ball backwards - it will always fly well on boot contact, whereas a ball dropped straight on the boot or rotating forwards is far less predictable. Suuport your full back. Kick off both boots. Sprint training: develop in particalar anterior deltoid (lift a small barbell stright forward and up) and lat dorsi (chins, pullups). Skipping. Massage achhiles tendons well bofre taking the field, also hammies.

  4. I have only been playing the position for three years now, but here are some tips I can give you for you to use how you like.

    1. Timing  This can be tricky and must come with practice with your fellow backs. You need to be familiar with the pace of especially your 13 and 15, but also must know how quickly your 10 and 12 can get the ball down the line. For slow to develop plays, i generally jog at a pretty slow pace until the move involving the 12 has occurred. Then depending upon whether 13  is receiving the ball and if 15 is inserting, that is when i take it up the next stride level. Once i am about a half second from potentially receiving a pass, i burst from depth at just about full kilt. i urge to not simply sprint the whole play. Remember, the deadliest move in 15's rugby is change of pace

    2. Defense  I do not know what type of defense your team plays, ie scrap or slide or whatever. on defense, i typically start out 5-10 meters behind my 13 to respect a kick. i then come up hard and out. in our defense, i almost always take the widest player and force him to either force him out into touch, or to pass back in to a scraping center or flanker.

    3. Kicks  Support your wing and fullback!. If they kick to one side, track back behind the ball and begin to scream for the ball. If done correctly, a counter performed by two wings and a fullback can be deadly.

  5. I'll tell you what I told another guy. I use to be a winger and this is what I finds most important as skills and qualities.

    -Speed

    -A nice swearve

    -A nice sidestep

    -A quick acceleration

Other things and skills can help you as a player as well

    -A Good chip and chase

-quick turn around incase the opposition kicks behind you

    -A good dummy pass

Of course, being good on defence should be part of your game as well

Work on these and skill wise you will be sound. However you also have to know how to read a game and have to know techniques on how to beat your opposition one on one. This is something you have to watch a few professional games to learn as no one can really explain it in words.

I'll do my best to sum it up but watch some games anyway. Do your best when attacking to get your opposition off balance. Then it is easy to fend or sidestep them.

  6. First of all mate the answers you have got here all have some relevance but first of all you must catch the ball, might sound funny but it is serious because the way you catch the ball depends on you being in a position to score tries and not just one or two.

Be confident in your ability to beat your man (or woman), have pace , and pin your ears behind you man and go for it, and also look for work do not just sit out on the wing. Show them you have power with your pace.

    Good Luck
