Can anyone give me any info on Manassas, VA?

We are going to relocate to Manassas, VA - I have never been there and I don't know anyone that lives anywhere in VA at all. Where is a good place to live when you have school-age children? I have one in high school and one in elementary. I also have large dog ( not negotiable ) and need a place that is pet- friendly. We would prefer a townhouse than an apartment and it needs 3 bedrooms. I have seen a lot of listings on craigslist.com but I don't know where the good neighborhoods near schools are.
