Can anyone give me any tips based on personal experience for doing the pilgrimage to Compostela on foot?

I have a few good websites but a few more wouldn't go amiss either. What I'm really after though, are the minutiae that can only come from having done the thing in person.

I didn't go myself, maybe some day, but I friend went and he had to stop due to fatigue. It requires a careful preparation and training  walking several miles a day with a backpack. The experience is rewarding but you have to plan it month in advance to be succesful.
