Can anyone give me any tips on how to go about changing the drive belt on a John Deere Model LX277 (AWS All Wheel Steering) Lawn Tractor? At a glance it looks like you need to remove the body.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I would doubt that you have to remove the body.  You probably need to remove the mower deck.  Why not take a digital photo before you take the old one off?  Also, look around on the tractor, there may be a decal with the diagram for installation.  On my sears, it is under the left foot rest.  You can read it when you are on your back installing the new belt.  They are usually pretty easy, three pulleys and a couple of belt guides.

  2. unless someone on Yahoo has that exact model, you will be far better off calling up a Deere dealer and ask to talk to a mechanic there... He can give you all the tricks and tips, and tell you the best/fastest way to change your belt...  If he says bring it in, just tell him you are a handy guy, and you are 100 miles away.... he will help you.
