I am somewhat of an artist and am looking into starting stained glass projects, as a hobby, for now until I actually know what I am doing. I have, in the past few years been thinking of doing this but have found little info about how to start. Can anyone help?

  1. The best way to start is a class. I started with an inexpensive adult-ed class, and some park districts offer them, too. Glass studios also often have classes, but can be more expensive. It's really useful to have someone experienced around at first to help figure out why something's going wrong.

If you want to check it out some more on your own, here's a good site for an overview.

Vicky Payne did a series ("Stained Glass with Vicky Payne") that ran for a long time on PBS - the show may still be on in your area, and it's also possible your library can get some of the videos for you (there's a link to a site with info on the videos below).

The Stained Glass Association of America sites are good places for technical details.

Most of all, be careful to practice safe handling techniques with the lead solder and lead came. Enjoy and good luck.
